Kayaking

Kayaking in Fort Bragg is one of our great adventures.

"This is the best coastal kayaking in all of California! Paddling only four miles took six hours because there were so many caves, arches, wave pour-overs, sea birds and seals to check out," said one visitor. "Big safe beaches to land on and launch from, and expert guides to take us safely through every feature."

Two local outdoor adventure companies are ready to get you on the water.

Liquid Fusion Kayaking offers both instruction and guided tours for river and ocean kayakers. Several of Fort Bragg's rivers are navigable by kayak, including the Noyo River. Here is their March 2012 activity schedule:

March 2 and 3 - Earn your Paddling Stars.  Saturday's BCU 2 Star Assessment is a good starting point for paddlers to demonstrate that they have the basics on sheltered waters.  Sunday's 3 Star Sea training will put you on track toward developing the skills of an intermediate sea kayaker.

March 23-24 - Whitewater River Kayaking Classes.  Peel in and out of eddies, ferry glide across the river, read the water, and river-proof your roll in this fun class that focuses on the fundamental skills of whitewater river kayaking.  Perfect for the novice or intermediate paddler looking to improve their river running skills.

March 31 - Essential Kayak Skills.  Perfect class for beginners.  Learn strokes and safety skills for kayaking to make kayaking easy and fun.

March 1-31 - Private Lessons and Tours Available.  Call us to design a custom lesson or tour for you - sea, river, surf.

April 2012, we start to hang a bit closer to home on the Mendocino Coast and are starting our sequence of Saturday sea kayaking classes and Sunday Tours.  Our Second Sunday Coastal Tours were so much fun that we have added First Sunday Estuary Paddles for all skill levels and Third Sunday Rock Gardening Exploration and Play for paddlers with BCU 3* or higher skills.

If you see us this spring and think that we are looking pretty healthy and well-fed, it is probably because are dialing our favorite recipes for our Waves and Caves Weekends.  Memorial Day and Labor Day Weekends 2012, come play with us in the Whitewater of the Sea and let us treat you to camping, campfires, and local cuisine.

Sub-Surface Progression in Fort Bragg rents kayaks for both ocean and river exploration.

Ocean kayaking should not be attempted without some instruction. Gentle currents (check local tide charts) provide endless hours of family enjoyment along the rivers, viewing sea lions, harbor seals, and many species of birds. Liquid Fusion offers sunset bird paddles.
